Welcome to Our Alumni Association!

” We are asking that our alumni look back… be positive role models to the new students, give some time helping and guiding them in their development, donate to their education, and invest in their environment. “

The Stann Creek Ecumenical Junior College (SCEJC) has been in operation since 1986. Since then it has graduated over 2000 students who have dominated the workforce in the Stann Creek District and have built notable careers across the country of Belize and abroad. We are proud to call them our alumni.

We pledge to prepare our students to be competitive now and in the future. We are working hard to provide them with the requisite skills and knowledge to survive in the global workplace. We are moving forward with visions of excellence … providing relevant and quality education at an affordable cost.

This century has brought about new changes and new demands on how education is provided. In a time where technology is massively evolving and threatening the creativity of the human mind, we are faced with the challenge of maintaining the interest of the new student while teaching him or her how to survive and be relevant in the largely mechanized society.

The existence of learning institutions in the traditional sense has been threatened as the interest of “for-profit” institutions (non-educators) increased in training individuals for the workforce. We believe that higher education institutions need to work diligently to maintain relevance in the new society.

We at SCEJC hold fast to quality and are pushing towards institutionalizing best practices to ensure this. We celebrate the results of our best practices as we seek ways to continuously improve our performances and relevance in our local community.

We are challenged with low male enrolment and limited ability to assist needy students. We hold the belief that the level of education a man receives, aids to improve the general conditions of his family and community. We have also noted that most aid (public and private) are merit-based. The students who need the most assistance are largely overlooked.

We want to engage our alumni in the venture of educating southern Belize. The statistics on enrollment are poor at the tertiary level in the Stann Creek District. In 2014, from a district population of over 30 000, only 542 (Stann Creek District 2014 Annual Report) were enrolled at the two junior colleges in the area (SCEJC and independence Junior College).
