Purpose: to provide accurate, timely, and targeted academic advising (and other forms of advising) and to make information readily available and accessible to students. ESEAS will help to identify “at-risk” students and provide tools for administrators, advisors, and faculty to intervene to ensure student success.

The objective is for ESEAS to help increase student retention and facilitate a better transition into the labor market.

Research shows that student persistence can be improved by focusing on three key retention areas:

  • Early Identification
  • Intervention
  • Student Engagement

Goal of ESEAS

To catch students who are “at-risk” and intervene before they fail and get discouraged (which can lead to lack of confidence, decrease in self-esteem, and dropping out).

The Ecumenical Student Early Alert System is intended to be a robust, campus-wide tool built to focus on retaining students at Ecumenical Junior College. ESEAS solicits input from faculty and staff to alert Advisors when students are struggling (even if not in academics).

*Studies show that active intervention is the most effective method for student persistence.

Faculty are asked to identify struggling students before and after mid-semester, initiate contact with advisors and campus resources, encourage the use of student support systems, provide relevant data for use in analysis, and track progress and results.
