*All registered students receive a flash drive at the beginning of the school semester with important information. Students are expected to read through and get familiar with school policies and procedures.

*Open and mutually respectful communication between teacher and student is very important for success.

TRIPS

  • At least one trip (compulsory) per semester per Major or course.
  • All trips will be graded (information on trips to be added to the course outline).
  • Field trips near SCEJC or the local community are encouraged each semester.
  • Students need to submit a report to the instructor three (3) working days after every trip.
  • Payment FOR TRIP should be made latest three (3) working days before the trip date.
  • School policy applies on trips and all school-related functions.
  • Students must sign a contract form for all overnight trips.

CELL PHONES

  • All phones should be off or silent for the duration of the class (if not allowed by the instructor for lesson purposes).
  • A student whose phone rings in class and/or answers a call during class (without permission) will be asked to leave and be considered absent.
  • Inform teacher of possible emergency before class if expecting a call during class (conditional).
  • Inform family and friends that they can call the school’s number in case of emergency. Office staff will relay the information.

TESTS/QUIZZES

  • Students are expected to take all pertinent tests and quizzes for the course.
  • Students will get an automatic zero (O) on tests and quizzes when absent without valid reasons (A valid reason requires information with proper documentation – e.g. medical paper).
  • Cheating is an offense. Students caught cheating will receive an automatic zero or be asked to withdraw from the course.
  • The dates (or weeks) tests are given are indicated on course outlines.

ASSIGNMENTS

  • Students are expected to hand in assignments on the due dates (as noted on course outlines or indicated by the teacher in class).
  • Ten points (10) will be lost per day for an assignment not passed in on the due date. Students will receive a zero (0) after three days.
  • Plagiarism is an offense – see rules in the school catalogue.

PRESENTATION & GROUP WORK

  • Students are expected to do their just share in getting group work done.
  • Students will be provided with a rubric or a breakdown of the task.
  • The presentation or work must be structured and well guided.
  • Individual grades will be recorded for students based on their overall input.
  • Students are expected to come properly groomed for presentations.
  • Students need to follow the guide (rubric) provided by the teacher for grading work.

RETURN OF PAPERS

  • For tests, quizzes, homework, and presentations – the maximum is one week.
  • Labs, projects, case studies, research papers, SBA – maximum is 2 weeks.

DROP/ADD

  • Is only one week.
  • The rule on absence will apply to students who appear after week one.
  • No student will be accepted for the semester after the permitted absence time is passed.
  • Students who desire to withdraw must officially inform the administration and fill out an official withdrawal form.
  • The time of withdrawal within the semester determines the percentage of monies returned to students. See catalogue for information on policy on the return of finance.

ABSENCE

  • Students are expected to inform the office of absences before the date of absence where possible. In case of emergency, a student or a relative may call or visit the office.
  • Students are required to bring the pertinent documents to the office to be allowed back into class.
  • Students can only be absent three or four times per semester (this still requires that students follow the proper procedures).
  • Students may be asked to discontinue the class for unexplained absences or absences that surpass the numbers permitted.
  • Students with medical conditions that prevent them from attending classes regularly may be asked to withdraw for the semester to deal with the situation.
  • Students whose job commitment requires them to be absent for a prolonged time far beyond the allowed period for absences may be asked to withdraw for the semester.

LATENESS

  • Students are expected to be in class and seated on time. Exceptions need a valid excuse (i.e. emergency with proof, transport due to mechanical problems). Usual Belizean weather is not a valid excuse
  • Students must call the office with valid excuses (with proof) if they are going to be a bit late for their classes.
  • Unexcused lateness will be treated as absence after 10 minutes.

CLEANLINESS

  • Be a good steward of EJC property. Help to maintain a clean environment.
  • Throw trash into bins strategically situated all over the compound.
  • Keep the classroom clean. Do not push garbage into desks.
  • Keep bathrooms clean.
  • Students caught littering will be suspended.
  • There should be NO eating in classrooms.

DRESS CODE

  • Students are expected to come to school properly attired (following EJC policy on dress code).
  • No part of a student’s undergarment should be visible on campus.
  • Students who are not properly attired will be sent home (suspended)
  • EJC students are expected to dress appropriately, at all times, when conducting transactions on campus. Students not appropriately attired will not be rendered service and will be asked to leave the campus.

SILENCE

  • A school campus is a silent zone.
  • Students should carry themselves with a high degree of respect and tact on campus.
  • No music should be played in the administrative building.
  • Loud music should not be played anywhere on campus during class hours.

STAFFROOM

  • NO student is allowed in the staffroom.
  • Any student caught in the staffroom will be suspended by the administration.

GRADE APPEAL

  • Grade appeal is officially made to the Dean. Students will need to fill out an appeal form no later than five (5) business days for all assessment types leading to the final grade and 20 business days for the final course grade.
  • Students need to have ALL graded documents available upon request by the dean.

ADDITIONAL

  • NO gambling of any kind is allowed on campus. An infraction will result in suspension.
  • NO obscene language should be used on campus anytime. An infraction will result in suspension.
  • Students under the influence of alcohol and/or other illegal substances will not be allowed on campus or in class. See the rule in the school catalogue
  • No sitting on tables and desks in classrooms and on campus. Offenders will be suspended.
  • Stealing on campus or any school-related trip or function will be dealt with most severely (stealing is a criminal offense and will be dealt with accordingly).
  • Visitors are not allowed to linger on campus. ALL visitors must report to the secretary’s office before conducting ANY business on campus.
  • Bags will NOT be allowed in computer rooms, science laboratories, and libraries. Lockers are available for rent.
  • Cyberbullying of any kind will not be tolerated. An infraction may result in suspension or expulsion.
  • It is an offense to upload information on social media about a person without his/her consent (whether good or bad).
  • Any indication of consent (in any form including sharing, teasing, and liking) to cyberbullying will be treated as an offense and will be dealt with accordingly.
